Belonging to the family of primary colors, magenta is an essential hue for creating a wide range of shades, from bright pinks to deep purples, as well as subtle reds.
For luminous violets, combine magenta with phthalo blue or ultramarine blue. For deep oranges, mix it with a light Isaro yellow or saffron yellow. For delicate skin tones, add a touch of magenta to a yellow ochre mix, which can be adjusted with a hint of raw umber. For subtle grays, try magenta paired with perylene green or emerald green. It offers excellent permanence.
Magenta is perfect for painting vibrant flowers, intense sunsets, or as a base for many mixtures. Its transparency also makes it ideal for washes and glazes, allowing layers to be built up while retaining luminosity.
